Porquerolles is often described as the closest thing France has to a Caribbean island, and once you see the water, you'll understand why. 💙 It's part of the Hyères Islands, just off the coast near Toulon, about a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Marseille plus a short ferry ride. The island is mostly car-free, covered in pine forests, vineyards, and hiking trails, and ringed by some of the most beautiful beaches in France.
Plage Notre-Dame is the star of the island, with soft white sand and water so clear and turquoise it genuinely looks tropical. It's a bit of a walk or bike ride from the port, which helps keep the crowds down compared to the beaches closer to town.
